He's ronery .. poor rittre Kerry

This from Scott Hennen's blog:
"This is a true story.....Check out this photo from our mess hall at the US Embassy yesterday morning. Sen. Kerry found himself all alone while he was over here. He cancelled his press conference because no one came, he worked out alone
in the gym w/o any soldiers even going up to say hi or ask for an autograph (I was one of those who was in the gym at the same time), and he found himself eating breakfast with only a couple of folks who are obviously not troops.

What is amazing is Bill O'Reilly came to visit with us and the troops at the CSH the same day and the line for autographs extended through the palace and people waited for two hours to shake his hand. You decide who is more respected and loved by us servicemen and women!"

I'm not any huge Bill O'Reilly fan, but he's a far cry better than John "Eff'n" Kerry. Nice to see the troops are giving him (Kerry) the welcome he so richly deserves.

Sony, how do I love thee .. let me count the ways

I don't need a reason to not buy Sony ever again, but now I have even one more!!

In their zest to sell PSPs this holiday, and in their startling hubris and predictable ignorance of the level of sophistication of their customers, Sony created a fake blog of a non-existent kid who wants a PSP for Christmas and, as a service to other such needy kids in the same tragic circumstances, has helpfully gathered the 1337est warez and phat beatz to needle and pester their parents with, as though gathering lame remixes of Sony-worshipping jingles and goofy homemade videos on a Web page will factor into ANY parent's purchasing decision. This was clearly someone's pathetic misconception of a viral marketing stunt, which was so easily seen through that the comments it has gathered are driving more traffic now than the original intent of the site--and those posting are NOT happy with Sony.

This is a beautiful example of why you (Sony, or any business really) MUST NOT condescend to your audience, in your advertising, in your policies, in your practices. Sony has turned epic disdain for us lowly "little peeple" into an art form. In today's day and age, us little peeple can fight back with a vengeance.

EDIT: Sony has admitted that its fake site is actually fake. Of course, whenever Sony admits wrongdoing, they don't actually apologize for it .. they just kinda go, 'ok ok, we're busted. whatever.'
Busted. Nailed. Snagged. As many of you have figured out (maybe our speech was a little too funky fresh???), Peter isn't a real hip-hop maven and this site was actually developed by Sony. Guess we were trying to be just a little too clever. From this point forward, we will just stick to making cool products, and use this site to give you nothing but the facts on the PSP.

Sony Computer Entertainment America

Oboy. Thanks for insulting our intelligence, Sony. We can see that you've really learned from the experience. We can't wait to be insulted by you again!

Let it snow

Last night and this morning, Columbia got historic amounts of snow. According to the Trib, the nearby airport recorded 15 1/2" of accumulation. MU cancelled classes today for the first time in over ten years.

This morning I went out and got a few pictures. It doesn't look like all that much snow, to me. The 1995 snowfall was definitely a lot more visually arresting. I remember going outside and seeing my car (a very large car) completely buried, as in, no part of the car was at all visible.

Snow day! Three day weekend! Woohoo. Except I do have a lot of work to do, because the magazine is going live this weekend, and I have a paper due Monday.

As far as the snow is concerned, I love it. We haven't had a good hard snow in years now. Granted it's a little early, but I am more than happy to live with it for a week or two, as long as the roads get cleared.

UPDATE: I turned on the TV while I was eating lunch. There was no broadcast, only an 'emergency message' advising everyone to stay off the roads so the utility crews could have time to clear them. Also, I-70 and highway 63 have been closed. I guess it's probably safe to say that other parts of the city got it a lot worse than we did here where I live. Anyway, I'm perfectly content to chill out in my apartment for the next few days.
